Как и человеческие дети, детёныши шимпанзе очень привязаны к своим мамам, но многие из них теряют своих родителей, когда они ещё совсем маленькие. В западной и центральной Африке, матери детёнышей шимпанзе относятся к животным, убитые браконьерами ради мяса. Затем браконьеры продают бедных сирот детей для экспериментов или цирков или как экзотических животных.
К счастью, многие из этих детёнышей шимпанзе получили любящий дом в новом Суитуотерском Шимпанзе Заповеднике в Кении.
В Суитуотерсе молодые шимпанзе могут вести нормальную жизнь, искать пищу, заводить друзей и учатся, как осваиваться и забираться. У большинства дела идут хорошо.
