Lake Baikal is one of the greatest and most beautiful lakes in the world! It is the deepest(1620m) of all the lakes, and it has the largest volume of fresh water (20% of world reserves). The lake has unique fauna. Baikal is a classic example of tectonic lake:it's a reservoir, formed by tectonic processes. Baikal lies in a deep basin, surrounded by mountain ranges. Baikal is one of the oldest lakes in the world :it's 25 million years old. The lake shores diverge at a speed of 2 cm per year, and in the further future it can turn into a real ocean. More than 300 rivers flow into the lake. The largest of them is the Selenga river. Only one river flows from the Baikal ;it's the Angara river.
