The words flora and fauna are collective terms for a plant and an animal world. Flora means plants, which naturally grow in a particular area. The term fauna is used to represent animals, which naturally live in a particular area. Kazakhstan is rich in flora and fauna. The plant world numbers about 6 thousand species, not counting more than 500 species of introduced and cultivated plant species. A saxaul tree, specific to the deserts of Central Asia, grows here, the wood of which is so dense that it sinks in water, and when burned gives heat equal to that of good quality coal.
