Read the sentence and choose the correct word. The Paralympics
A. The Paralympics is one of the most important sports events in the world. This event is held as The Olympic Games every four years. Traditionally, these games are held in different countries after The Olympic Games, they were in Brazil, Rio de Janeiro in 2016 from 7 to 18 September 2016.
B. Did you see this amazing ceremony? The concept of the opening ceremony was “The heart knows no limits” and “Spirit in movement” was the logo of the event. It was the first time when such an event was hosted in a South American country. More than 4,000 athletes from about 160 countries and regions competed in 534 events in the Rio Paralympic Games, which officially opened at the Maracana Stadium. It was a stunning gala going with samba dancers, parading wheelchairs, and giant balloons.
C. For the fourth time, China topped the medal table, winning 107 gold medals, while Georgia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam won their first-ever Paralympic gold medals. 4,342 athletes from different countries competed in Rio. Also, it was the first time when Russia wasn’t allowed to participate in the Paralympics because of the doping allegations.
D. The Rio 2016 Paralympic Games included more female competitors than ever before and 25% more awards than in London in 2012. The Games included para canoe and para-triathlon, in which six sets of awards were given. In the other 20 sports, the number of events has not decreased in comparison with London.
E. It took four years of planning and 50,000 volunteers to make everything go well. Many people said that there was a friendly atmosphere that spread out through the whole country. The volunteers wore clothing that included yellow polo shirts and jackets, beige trousers, white socks, and green trainers, besides they were always friendly and helpful.
