The United States of America is one of the greatest countries in the world. It is situated on the North America continent and is washed by the Pacific and the Atlantic oceans. The USA borders on Canada and Mexico. There are six time zones.
The main mountains are the Appalachi and the Cordilierra. The longest rivers are the Mississippi and the Missouri. There are five Greats Lakes between the USA and Canada. The climate is different in different regions of the country.
The population of the USA is 320 million people. They are people of all races and nationalities. The official language of the country is English.
The capital of the USA is Washington, D.C. New York is the largest city. Other large cities are San-Francisco, Los Angeles, Detroit, Chicago, Dallas and others.
The USA is a country of highly developed industry and agriculture. The country is rich in coal, oil, natural gas, gold, silver and other minerals. Such industries as mechanical engineering, ship-building, automobile, aerospace, heavy and light industries are highly developed. American farmers produce wheat, corn, vegetables and fruit, meat and milk.
The USA is a federal republic, consisting of fifty states and a District of Columbia. Congress is the American parliament. It consists of the House of Representatives and the Senate.
