Tom is very upset: Becky has stopped going to school. the boy does not know what to think, he is not himself, he has abandoned all his games and pranks. my aunt, who loves to treat her fellow-creatures, as she has never been ill herself, tried all sorts of remedies on Tom, but all in vain. tom is dying right before my eyes. then his aunt gave him the latest remedy - "painkiller". tom, feeling tired of all this treatment, pretends that the new medicine is the best. but he gives his portion to the cat. the dazed animal runs around the house for a while, then jumps out of the window. revealing the deception, the aunt is offended. Becky shows up at school. tom is ready to move mountains with joy, but Becky lets him know that she is completely indifferent to him.
