1. What do you know about the country you live in? Russia is the largest country in the world. It extends to the Pacific Ocean in the east, the Arctic Ocean in the north and the Caucasus Mountains and the Black Sea in the south. We know that the territory behind the Ural Mountains is Siberia and the territory near the Pacific Ocean is the Far East. It takes more than ten hours to get from the east to the west of the country by plane.

2. The country is very large indeed. The climate is different in different places: the north is famous for its ice, snow and low temperatures but in the south the weather is warm in winter and hot in summer.
3. Russia is rich in seas, lakes, rivers and forests. Lake Baikal in Siberia is famous because it is the deepest lake in the world and it has very clear fresh water. Some of our rivers are very long and powerful.
4. There are a lot of important cities on the territory of Russia. Tourists from abroad come to visit Moscow, the capital of the country. Visitors come to do St Petersburg, famous for its beauty. In Russia there are thousands of cities and towns, large and small, old and new and every city or town is interesting in its way.

my hobby

i have several hobbies . i like dancing, playing computer games and playing the piano.

my favourite hobby is playing the piano. i enjoy learning to play a new piece of music. it takes a lot of practice but it is worth it. every time i play the piece better and better and in the end the music flows naturally — that is what i like most of all.

this hobby is rather expensive, because you need an instrument. i have an upright piano that my parents bought when i went to my music school. besides, some pupils take private lessons, and it isn't cheap.

i don't take any private lessons. i go to music school where i have a few subjects and there are a lot of other children who love music. i also practise a lot at home (although our neighbours are not always happy about it). my parents sometimes ask me to play their favourite pieces of music.

i love playing the piano because it is relaxing and, as people say, this hobby improves memory and helps to learn foreign languages.
