The thistle is the national emblem of Scotland.This is how, according to a legend, that plant came to be chosen as a badge.In very ancient times the Vikings landed somewhere in the east coast of Scotland to settle the country.The Scots gathered their army and took their stations behind the River Tay. After a long march they pitched their camp and rested, not expecting the enemy before the next day.The Vikings however were near; noticing that no guards were protecting the camp, they crossed theTay, intending to take the Scots by surprise.So they took off their shoes to make the least noise.
