The official name of the british isles is the united kingdom of great britain and northern ireland. its total area is 244.00 km^2 the territory of great britain is divided into 4 parts: england (london), scotland (edinburgh), wales (cardiff) and northern ireland (belfast). england is in the southern and central part of great britain, scotland is in the north of the island, wales is in the western part and northern ireland is in the north-eastern ireland. the symbol of england is a rose, of scotland – a thistle, of wales – a daffodil and the emblem of ireland is a shamrock and a hand. the uk is an island state. there are 2 big and some small islands. the largest are ireland and great britain. the orkney and the shetlands are in the north, the hebrides are in the north-west. the isle of man is in the west and the isle of wight is in the south. the territory is divided into lowland and highland britain. lowland includes southern and eastern england, highland britain comprises scotland, wales, the pennines and the lake district. great britain is washed by the atlantic ocean in the west, by the northern sea in the north and it`s separated from holland by the irish sea. it`s separated from the continent by the strait of dover and the english channel. the british isles have many rivers. the longest are the clyde and the severn with it tributary avon. also the sprey, the tweed and the trent are important for the uk. loch lomond is the largest lake in great britain; the longest is loch ness, which is famous for its monster. the climate of the uk is warm and soft because gulf stream is running across its shores. most of the year the temperature ranges between 10 and 20° c. the main feature is fast changing of the weather because of the cyclones. the uk is rich in oil, coal, kaolin, natural gas and zinc. there are big deposits of the lead.

/> animalsживотныеthere are different types of animals, all of them very important for nature. for example, we fear the sharks and find them dangerous, whereas they naturally keep sea water clean and filter it. animals refer to fauna and they are equally important for nature and people. there are two types of animals so far: domestic and wild. domestic animals, which we often call pets are very dear to people. however, wild animals can be rather dangerous for human beings. domestic animals can easily live next to people, whereas wild animals’ habitat is mainly in forests, jungles and oceans. at the moment, there are hundreds of animal species which are becoming extinct due to people’s anti-natural actions. these are mainly wild animals. there is a high chance that following generations might see some animals only on pictures because by that time they will have died out. fortunately, there are still lots of monkeys, zebras, lions, wolves, giraffes in the wild. domestic animals play a very important role in people’s lives. while people take care of them, they give something useful in return. for example, chickens give eggs, cows give milk, dogs protect people, cats catch mice, sheep can give fur etc. there has been a recent increase of homeless animals, especially of cats and dogs. from one hand, homeless animals can be rather dangerous for people, from the other hand, people often try to help them by taking them home, feeding them and simply taking care. there is also another type of animal classification. we distinguish following main groups: mammals, insects, birds, fish and reptiles. mammals are animals who feed their kids on milk, among them cows, dogs, dolphins, kangaroos, and many others. insects are small creatures with numerous legs and usually wings. birds are all animals with feathers. fish live under water and can swim. reptiles are animals without wings which lay eggs, among them snakes, crocodiles, lizards and some others. all these groups of animals contain several rather dangerous species. nevertheless, people should try treating them well, not taking actions which cause their extinction.существуют различные виды животных, все они важны в природе. например, мы опасаемся акул и считаем их опасными, в то время как они, естественно содержат морскую воду чистой и фильтруют ее. животные относятся к фауне, и они одинаково важны как для природы, так и для людей. в целом, есть два типа животных: и дикие. животные, которых мы часто называем питомцами дороги для людей. а вот дикие животные могут быть весьма опасны для человека. животные могут легко жить рядом с людьми, в то время как среда обитания диких животных в основном в лесах, джунглях и океане. в настоящее время существуют сотни видов животных, которые вымирают из-за действий людей против природы. в основном это дикие животные. существует высокая вероятность того, что последующие поколения смогут увидеть некоторых животных только на картинках, потому что к тому времени они вымрут. к счастью, есть еще много обезьян, зебр, львов, волков, жирафов в дикой природе. животные играют важную роль в жизни людей. в то время как люди заботятся о них, они что-то полезное взамен. например, куры яйца, коровы молоко, собаки защищают людей, кошки ловят мышей, овцы могут давать мех и т. д. недавно произошло увеличение бездомных животных, особенно кошек и собак. с одной стороны, бездомные животные могут быть весьма опасны для людей, с другой стороны, люди часто пытаются им, принося их домой, откармливая их и просто заботясь. существует также еще один вид классификации животных. мы выделяем следующие основные группы: млекопитающие, насекомые, птицы, рыбы и рептилии. млекопитающие животные, те, которые кормят своих детей молоком, среди них коровы, собаки, дельфины, кенгуру, и многие другие. насекомые - это маленькие существа с множеством ног и, как правило, с крыльями. птицы – это все животные с перьями. рыбы живут под водой и могут плавать. рептилии – это животные без крыльев, которые откладывают яйца, среди них змеи, крокодилы, ящерицы и некоторые другие. все эти группы животных содержат несколько довольно опасных видов. тем не менее, люди должны стараться относиться к ним хорошо, не предпринимая ничего, что вызывает их исчезновение.
