Тема 3 текст what is the purpose of sport? sport plays an important role in my life. i want to be healthy and fit that’s why i devote much of my time to playing different team games, swimming, running, riding the bicycle and wrestling. i can’t imagine my life without sport. when i was younger i thought that the purpose of sport was the victory. every time i took part in some competitions, i wanted to win, to be the first and the best. however, it was not only the victory that i had to experience. often i lost the game or a competition and suffered greatly. my couch used to repeat that it is not the victory that is important but the ability to accept the defeat with dignity. he also retold me the history of the olympic games and explained their primary purpose. it was to unite people together and show their brotherhood. during the first olympic games that were held in ancient greece in 884 bc all the wars were stopped. the athletes from different cities competed in various kinds of sports: they threw the discus, wrestled, ran, jumped and raced chariots. those who were better, faster and more skilful were awarded prizes — olive wreathes. because the athletes brought glory to their native towns, thankful compatriots greeted them cheerfully and sometimes built statues to commemorate their victory. modern olympic games continue the tradition started in the past. every four years the sportsmen from all over the world gather together to compete and glorify their motherland. the history of the olympic games shows how sport unites people. it gives a vivid example of how conflicts can be solved in a peaceful way. now when i’ve grown up i realize that sport is a powerful means of integrating people. moreover, it propagates the healthy way of life and stimulates us to be active. by playing sport we become strong-willed, determined and energetic. there are no losers in sport. each defeat can be turned into victory. it only encourages us to try harder, to be more persistent and devoted to what we do. i think everybody would agree that we only benefit from sport. к теме 3 1. укажите предложения, которые не соответствуют содержанию текста 1. i can imagine my life without sport. 2. i wanted to win, to be the first and the best. 3. often i lost the game or a competition and suffered greatly. 4. every five years the sportsmen from all over the world gather together to compete and glorify their motherland. 5. there are losers in sport. 6. during the first olympic games that were held in ancient greece in 884 bc all the wars were stopped.
