Iwas cleaning the house while he was working  in the garden.  (оба действия продолжали на протяжение некоторого времени). when we found  the cat it was playing under the bed. (found — короткое действие, нашли. was playing — он играл на протяжении некоторого времени). joan was having  a shower when the window cleaner came. (аналогично, как во втором) grandma was knitting  while grandad was smoking  his pipe. (скорее всего здесь опечатка и должно быть именно так.) when i arrived home, father was  painting the front door. bob and sally were  walking when it started to rain. what were  you talking about when i came in? i was reading  my newspaper when they knocked on the door. as fiona was washing  the glass, she cut her finger.mother broke the vase while she was dusting it
